This is a living-room setup guide for French channels in 2026, not a ranked list of IPTV services. The useful work is picking a player that fits the TV you already own, loading the playlist, and getting the guide to land on TF1 and France 2 instead of an empty row.

French channels worth testing first

French television is several stacks sharing one remote. Prove the rows you actually watch before you spend time on a 10,000-line Europe dump.

France Télévisions: France 2, France 3, France 4, France 5, and France Info. These are the public backbone. If France 2 news is missing or the title is boxes, fix encoding and the guide before you chase sports.

TF1 and M6 groups: TF1, TMC, TFX, TF1 Séries Films, plus M6, W9, 6ter, and Paris Première. These are the commercial evening channels most households look for first.

News and culture: BFM TV, LCI, CNews, Arte, and L’Équipe.

Sports: Canal+ Sport, beIN Sports, and RMC Sport cover most Ligue 1, UEFA, and Top 14 nights. Saturday 21:00 on beIN Sports 1 is a harsher test than a weekday film.

TNT / free-to-air: The terrestrial set (TF1, France 2, M6, Arte, and the rest of the free multiplex) should appear in a France-focused playlist even if you also want premium sports.

Use Xtream Codes when you have a portal URL, username, and password. Use M3U + XMLTV only when that is what you were given. Do not paste the playlist URL into the EPG field.

French titles need UTF-8. If Journal de 20 heures or a France 2 film shows as boxes, that is encoding, not a missing channel.

EPG matching for French public and commercial rows

A loaded guide that is still empty on TF1 or France 2 is usually an ID bind, not a dead URL.

1. Confirm you added an XMLTV / EPG source, not only an M3U.
2. Wait 15–30 minutes on first run, then refresh playlist and EPG once.
3. Set the device clock to automatic time and Europe/Paris before you add a timeshift.
4. If the file loaded and one flagship row is still blank or showing the wrong night, map that row by XMLTV id.

First-run setup

Do this once on the main TV:

Audio out of sync on live sport. Most players have an audio delay control. Try it before you rebuild the playlist.
